Senior Physicist -Technology R&D

A superb opportunity for an experienced PhD qualified Physicist to play a role developing new technologies / products at a highly regarded Technology Development Consultancy on the rural Cambs/Herts borders. The Physicist will join a team of the UK’s finest Engineers & Scientists in the role of Project Manager but still retaining direct technical involvement in a wide range of challenging and innovative NPD projects. Make no mistake -this may be called ‘consultancy’ but it is serious, hands-on science that is breaking technology boundaries in the areas such as medical devices, life sciences, consumer technology products, scientific instrumentation, industrial machines & processes. The Physicist will:
• Apply hands-on Science to analyse & develop viable solutions to challenging real-world technical problems
• Identify and research new ‘blue-sky’ technologies for possible commercial exploitation
• Be part of international multi-disciplinary product development teams;
• Design experimental apparatus and conduct proof-of-principle experiments
• Develop prototypes involving elements of electronics, optics, mechanics, materials etc
• Present results and findings to clients.
Requirements:
• A Masters (MPhys/MSci ) 2.1 or above and /or a Doctorate PhD, EngD, DPhil in Physics or closely related discipline.
• Broad knowledge of Physics from first principals
• Intuitive understanding of how physics effects real world processes and products
• Strong analytical and mathematical ability
• Specific experience in areas such as sensors, actuators, vision systems, control algorithms, acoustics, robotics or complex electro-mechanics
• A “hands on” highly practical approach to experimental physics and instrumentation
